At Fortinet Championship, Homa and Willett are currently tied for the lead coming into the weekend.
Max Homa and Danny Willett tied for the lead after the second round of the 2022 Fortinet Championship on Friday by finishing the round with scores of 12 under par, giving them the advantage going into the weekend.
NAPA, California: After shooting a 5-under 67 on Friday, Max Homa came into position to defend his title at the Fortinet Championship. He is currently tied for the early 36-hole lead with Danny Willett, who is competing in the first tournament of the PGA TOUR season.

Homa scored an eagle, four birdies, and a bogey — his first of the week — for a two-day total of 12-under 132 at Silverado Resort & Spa. Homa was a two-time winner during the previous season and a captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup that will take place the following week.

Homa remarked, “The path seems to meet my needs.” “I’ve been hitting the wedges extremely well, so when I get a lot of wedges from fairways like these, I feel like I can attack the pins,” said the golfer. “Today, I hit a lot of wedges, and I hit the wedges really well.”

The four-time PGA TOUR winner got his start in the game at the University of California.

Homa, who won the individual title at the NCAA Championships in 2013, remarked, “I’ve got a terrific support system here.” “I’ve got friends and family up here, as well as a number of individuals who respect the fact that I went to school up here,” the person said.

Willett, who has not won a tournament in the United States since his victory at the Masters in 2016, posted a score of 64 without making any bogeys.

Willett has won eight championships on the DP World Tour, with his most recent victory coming at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland in October of last year.

He is yet to make a bogey for the whole tournament thanks to his eight birdies in the second round.

“You know, the rough is hit or miss, and with the greens being as solid as they are, it makes for an interesting challenge. Willett, who has only six top-10 performances on the PGA TOUR since winning his lone major championship, remarked that it was “very good” to play a hole without making a bogey. “Both the field game and the short game are pretty crisp,” the player said. “The long game is pretty sharp.”

After shooting a 71, Justin Lower, who led after the first round, was two strokes behind. Since joining the PGA TOUR in 2013, he has competed in a total of 28 tournaments, the best of which was a tie for eighth place.

“It’s usually difficult to follow up a very low round with another decent round or even lower,” said Lower. “It’s always difficult to follow up a very low round.” “However, I’m going to go ahead and take one under today. Could it have been better? Yes, but on the other hand, it certainly could have been much worse.

There were a number of players, including Jason Day, Harris English, Charley Hoffman, and Webb Simpson, who did not make the cut.
